Name : Brant Rock Beach
Location: Ocean Street, Marshfield, MA

Why visit: Chrystal Clear Waters, Ease of access, and quiet swimming spot off-season.
High Surf at Brant Rock Beach |
My open water swim on St. Patrick's Day had the ocean churning up with high surf which made visibility underwater a challenge. Despite the cold ocean water temp (3.2C, 36F) and the choppy surf, it was still a delight to jaunt into the water off-season. During high surf days, this is a favored spot for surfers.
Complete with a stone jetty and boardwalk, this spot is quite accessible but still a wild swimming mecca for slow lesuirely swimming, floating, and longer open water swims. Current does not seem to be a huge issue here but I would caution swimming anywhere near the stone jetty.
Additionally, the water edge drops off suddenly. The shallows are dotted with rock boulders. You can be in six feet of water and find yourself next to a boulder as your navigate the swim. This spot absolutely not meant for diving or jumping. Given the nature of the rocky shallows, I would advise that you slow start your swim, get a feel of the water, and stay aware of your surroundings.
Despite the rocky shallows, this chrystal clear spot is not one to pass. Brant Rock Beach itself is a soft sand beach backed up against the Brant Rock Seawall. All in all, an enjoyable swim spot for adventurous wild swimmers.
